The West Nile virus dead bird testing season is here. You can report your dead bird using this online form at any time during the year.
From April 15-October 15, you can also report a dead bird using the WNV Hotline:
877-WNV-BIRD (877-968-2473)
What should I do with the dead bird?
Please report any dead bird you find to the phone number/web site below. While waiting for a response, you can preserve the dead bird (using gloves) by placing it in a plastic bag and setting it in a cool area and out of direct sun until it can be picked up by your local mosquito control agency. In hot summer temperatures, please put the bagged bird on a bag of ice to preserve it until the agency can come.
Our staff will call you as soon as possible to make the arrangements. Please note that the agencies that pick up birds for testing are closed on weekends. If you are reporting a dead bird on a Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday, you will not receive a call back until Monday.
